I am writing to you with details of a proposal to convert to academy status which will enable us to join a larger group of schools within a newly formed Multi-Academy Trust (MAT). The Government have made it clear that all schools should convert to academy status. It is now no longer possible to convert to a standalone academy and being part of a MAT is now a requirement.
This has been discussed at Governing Body level for the past 18 months. We have taken great care to explore all possible options to ensure that the children of Ivy Chimneys are placed in the strongest position for the future. The opportunity to be part of a brand new Multi-Academy Trust presents many advantages, as opposed to joining a pre-existing academy chain or trust. These advantages include:
- key opportunity to shape the new MAT organisation that works in the best interests of Ivy Chimneys.
- strengthening the partnership that already exists with local schools.
- working between schools in close geographical proximity and similar contexts.
We do not envisage that either converting to academy status or joining a Multi-Academy Trust would bring about a significant change to the day to day running of our school. The success of Ivy Chimneys is testament to the strength of our community and therefore we wish to work with you during this consultation period. Your views are important and we also want to answer any questions you may have.
We have arranged an information meeting on Thursday 2nd November at 7pm where Mr Furness and I will present in greater depth the plans for the Multi-Academy Trust. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. I would be grateful if you would let the school know if you will be attending.
